I’m five weeks postpartum with sis and time is flying by!!! I knew this would happen. Kit is our second baby, and I know just how fleeting life can be – but chasing around a toddler and caring for a newborn baby really has the days going by faster than I could’ve ever imagined. I often find myself excited for the future watching these two grow up together, but I’m also trying to savor every. single. dang. moment. in the here and now. Watching my babies grow is my greatest joy and pain all at the same time. Mom feelings are weird.
Anyways! As a five week postpartum mom of two, I have a handful of baby & postpartum items that I’ve truly grown to love and would recommend time and time again. These are all items that I have personally used for postpartum recovery and/or caring for my children as newborn babies. Let’s start with the baby items!
Favorite Baby Items
Portable night light
I loved using this little portable night light for our stay at the hospital and I’m continuing to use it at home on my nightstand while baby shares a room with us. It’s dimmable and I’m able to do middle of the night feedings and diaper changes without waking up Taylor.
Sound machine
I’m going to link a few, because honestly, we love all of our sound machines and I don’t think there’s one better than the other. As long as you have some sort of white noise – I can almost guarantee that baby AND YOU are going to sleep so much better. We have the Hatch Rest+ and the Hatch Rest Mini. We took the mini to the hospital and we also keep it in our bedroom while baby shares a room with us. We also have this travel one for in the car and on the go.
Kyte baby bundler & sleep bag swaddler
The Kyte baby bundlers are TRULY the best for those early days and weeks of your newborn’s life while their arms and legs are still scrunched together. It makes outfit changes 10x better and faster. Also, we are loving the Kyte baby sleep bag swaddler. The swaddle part removes to grow with them. But honestly, neither of my babies love being swaddled. So I’m loving the option of removing the swaddle part even now with a five week old because if she’s not having it, then I don’t fight it. Off it goes!
Snuggle Me lounger
This baby lounger might be my number one item. We use this thing constantly. We haul it all over the house, and never leave home without it if we’re traveling. Game changer when your arms just need a break.
Tubby Todd ointment
I use this ointment for LITERALLY everything. It works wonders within hours, and I mean it. Diaper rash? Yes. Craddle cap? You bet. Weird skin rash? Where’s the ointment. They don’t call it all-over-ointment for nothing.
Amazon diaper tote
I know you’ve all seen it floating around the internet and there’s a reason for that! Along with the lounger, we also use this tote the most. I lug it all over the house. I keep diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, burp cloths, pacis, ointments, you name it and it’s in this tote.
Carseat and breast feeding cover
Anytime we are out in public, I make sure we have this cover. It’s great for keeping the carseat covered and baby tucked away from all the crazy elements of this world, and it also doubles as a breastfeeding cover.
Baby Carriers
I’m linking the two I use! I love them both and interchange them equally. The Solly Wrap is a little less structured than this one by Ergobaby, but both are very comfortable and easy for on-the-go. It really just depends on my mood as to which one I choose to wear.
Baby Bags
For Sonny we used (and are still using) the Dagne Dover diaper backpack. I love it! The material is wipeable and soft, and it has a ton of pockets and attachments. With Kit, I didn’t want to lug around two diaper bags – so I opted for this cute and roomy travel pouch by Pehr. It’s small enough to throw into my purse, yet big enough for all her essentials. I will eventually transition Sonny out of the diaper bag and transition Kit to the Dagne Dover.
Favorite Postpartum Items
Silverettes
Trust me when I say GAME CHANGER. These are silver nipple covers made to soothe and heal sore nipples for breastfeeding mamas. I didn’t have these with Sonny and I wish I did. I wore these nonstop the first two weeks with Kit, and can honestly say that I had nipple pain for maybe one day with her verses a month with Sonny. I swear by these. If anything, get the silverettes.
Cooling gel pads
I used these religiously with Sonny, because that was before I discovered silverettes. These cooling pads were the only thing that provided relief. Keep them in the fridge – you’ll thank me later.
Nursing pads (reusable & disposable)
I tend to have an oversupply of milk, so I keep these disposable nursing pads stocked up. I also use these reusable ones from time to time. They are more comfortable, but a pain to keep laundered.
Nursing bras
I truly hate nursing bras, but I found three good ones that provide somewhat a level of normalcy and less like a diaper for your boobs. This one and this one are great for lounging, and this one is great for when you need to pull yourself together and actually wear normal clothes.
The Haaka Ladybug
The Haaka Ladybug is the superior breast milk collector. I love that it’s so discreet and it’s such an easy way to build up your frozen supply without having to pump all the time. A must have for breastfeeding mamas in my opinion.
Preparation H & natural alternative
Hemorrhoids are always the worst part of my recovery. I take care of them with Preparation H and this rhoid balm by Motherlove. Lots of rest, sprays and sitz baths too.
Sitz bath & salts
If you have any kind of tear or hemorrhoid, go ahead and get yourself a sitz bath. Use it 2x/daily the first week or two. I use this sitz bath salt, but regular epsom salt would work too.
Frida mom perineal bottle
The one they give you at the hospital is fine, but this one by Frida Mom is way easier to use because of it’s shape.
Dermoplast & Perineal sprays
They provide Dermoplast at the hospital, but I also love this natural alternative. Stock up on these!
Tucks pads
They also provide Tucks pads at the hospital, but again – stock up! Instant relief.
Overnight pads
I wore these pads once I graduated from the hospital-grade pads. Nothing special, but these did the trick and are a more natural/organic option.
Postpartum undies
Honestly, my favorite postpartum undies the first 2-3 days are the ones they provide at the hospital. But once I felt like putting on real underwear, I really loved these by Motherhood Maternity. Highwaisted, full coverage, sucks you in and makes you feel like some sort of woman again.
Kindred Bravely robe & pjs
The material is everything you want you want it to be and more during your postpartum journey. The weight and texture is just perfect. My code at Kindred Bravely is still active! Use code AshleyT15 for 15% off your purchase. These are my favorite pjs and here is the matching robe.
Target pjs
I also love these pjs from Target! Comfy material and easy for nursing.
Hucleberry app
This app is amazing for keeping track of feedings, pump sessions, diaper changes, and more during those first few weeks and months! I’m not trying to keep track of everything in my head, so I love having this app at my fingertips for easy logging.
