I needed a cheap and easy way to level up our vanity situation in our hall bathroom. I didn’t want to replace it (yet), but the contractor-grade look of it just really needed to go. So I decided I would try and spruce it up with a little spray paint.
I saw this DIY countertop hack on Proverbs 31 Girl’s instagram page (check out her highlight bubble)! To be honest, the countertop wasn’t terrible. It was a creamy/beige color with white veining, but I solid wanted white so it would blend with the white cabinets and not look so dingy/dated. I also ended up spray painting the hardware gold to give it new life, and changed a few other things around the bathroom to really elevate the whole space. You can check out the complete bathroom transformation on my other blog post – Hall Bath Makeover!
Here’s what you will need for this project – appliance epoxy spray paint, plastic wrap, painters tape, and maybe a few extra towels.
As you can see below, I prepped the space by covering everything up that I DIDN’T want to get to get paint on. I started with the press’n seal plastic wrap, and then sealed the edges down with the painters tape. If I had to go back, I would’ve even covered the floor because the overspray is A LOT. You may want to cover up your nose hairs too. Speaking from experience.
The key here is to do light, even coats with a constant back and forth motion. Once you have the first coat done, wait 3-5 minutes and do the second coat. Yes, you read that right! You only need to wait a few minutes between each coat (even if the previous coat is still wet). According to the painting instructions on the can, you only have a 30 minute window to complete all of your coats. It took me about 20 minutes to do 4 coats of paint.
Let it cure for a solid 24 hours before touching it, and 48-72 hours before setting anything on it. If you see some imperfections, they say to wait a week before spraying it again. Here’s what it looked like as soon as I was finished spraying (below).
Keep scrolling for the final result after about a week! So far it has held up nicely and I’ve been pretty impressed with the quality. We did notice a few spots that we’d like to touch up, but totally our fault because we didn’t wait a full week before we started setting items on the surface. Overall, we are VERY PLEASED with this transformation!
