This DIY Christmas card display is the perfect addition to any entryway for the holiday season. I personally like to display cards where we (and our guests) will see them often. Last year, I clipped them to the garland running up our staircase, but this year I wanted to try something different. I started adding them to a bucket full of branch clippings by our fireplace (as I’m sure you saw on Insta), but that filled up quickly.
So I came up with this simple and easy wall hanging idea! The best part? I didn’t pay a dime for it. I had all of the supplies laying around my house!
What you will need:
- A tree branch or stick (I used a birch branch)
- Christmas tree clippings (free from Lowe’s or Home Depot)
- Ribbon
- Twine or string
- Paper clips
- Floral wire (optional)
Instructions:
Cut the twine a little longer than the length of your stick. Tie one end of the twine to one end of the stick, then take the other end of the twine and tie it to the other end of the stick. This creates a way for you to hang the stick on the wall, much like a picture frame with hanging wire.
Then, cut the ribbon to the lengths of your preference. This depends on how tall your wall is, or perhaps how many Christmas cards you anticipate. I prefer each ribbon to be a different length, but you could totally cut them all the same length. Space out each ribbon along the stick & tie a simple knot.
Next, you will assemble the tree clippings to make a swag! This is a little tricky to explain without showing you, so be patient with yourself. Group a bunch of branches together and tie them super tight together in the middle with floral wire (or twine). Then wrap your ribbon around the floral wire to disguise it. It also helps if you have the branches pointing opposite ways on each side (this is actually key here). Do you see what I mean in the photo?
Clip your lovely cards to the ribbon with your pretty paper clips. I used large gold clips, but you could also use colorful paper clips or even festive binder clips. I hung everything up with a nail & called it a day!
In case you don’t have these items at home, I’ve linked below what I used. Merry Christmas!
